The concept for Nancy's Big Ideas came to me when another friend recently asked if I would help her come up with ideas for her son's birthday party. She didn't mind doing the work, she just needed help with the ideas. I'd been asked this question so many times over the last 18-20 years, I was used to it. People have always told me "You have such creative ideas, you need to be an event planner". After being a PTA President, Girl Scout Leader, Band Booster President, and mother of 3...I had been working as a "volunteer event planner" for years...I just didn't realize it. I loved doing it so much that it never really occurred to me that I could actually get paid to do something I was already doing. That's when I went to work for our local Girl Scout Council as a Program Coordinator. It was a lot of fun, but I was limited to only working with Girl Scout events and I wanted to reach a wider audience. Then, my friend asked me about her son's birthday party and "Nancy's Big Ideas" hit me.
Packaging and offering my ideas to other people who "don't mind doing the work, but need help with the ideas" seemed like the most effective way to offer "event planning" at a price that anyone could afford.
My background includes a B.A. in English from Cal Sate Fullerton, 15 years retail management experience, 4 years in the consumer relations field, and 20 years as a "volunteer event planner". I've worked as a Freelance Muralist for the last 7 years. (OK...some of these experiences overlapped...it sounds like I'm 90 years old!).
My other interests include sewing, altered art, hiking, and outdoor cooking (Dutch Ovens!).
I live in Southern California about 50 miles outside of L.A. with my husband and 3 beautiful daughters who continue to be my greatest inspiration for all things creative.
This website wouldn't have been possible without the help of our friend Darren Gates. Without his patient "telephone web-lessons", I would have been lost. Check out his website, the $5 Script Archive. Thanks Darren! |
